Microsoft launched the Surface Laptop 7th Edition a few months ago, so now it’s had time to ‘bed in’ we got one in for our most ‘hardcore’ (and hardest to please) user, Gareth, to road-test. The Surface Laptop 7th Edition marks a bold step forward in Windows computing. We’d even go as far as to say it might even be the best Windows Laptop yet!
Why? Well this time, it’s not just about incremental upgrades on the same old Intel platform. It’s about a fundamental shift under the bonnet — a move to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite and Plus processors, representing a full embrace of ARM architecture.
If you’ve been holding out for a Windows laptop that delivers serious battery life, snappy performance, and built-in AI capability, this could be the device you’ve been waiting for.
Here’s what makes the new Surface Laptop 7 such a standout — and why we at Cosurica aren’t just paying close attention; we’re embracing it!

Snapdragon X Series: A Leap in Performance
The Surface Laptop 7 trades Intel silicon for Qualcomm’s cutting-edge Snapdragon X Elite or X Plus chipsets, built on custom ARM Oryon cores. These aren’t just mobile-friendly processors — they’re performance beasts, rivalling Apple’s M-series chips and outpacing many current-gen Intel CPUs in multi-tasking and AI workloads. All the standard, Office suite type products we have in everyday use work flawlessly on the new ARM architecture.
So in everyday use, the Surface Laptop 7 translates to:
- Ultra-fast app launches
- Seamless multitasking across productivity suites
- Smooth performance in creative tools and browser-heavy environments
This is the first Surface laptop that genuinely feels as fast as it looks.
What’s even more pleasing for Gareth is that any fears he had of potential ARM incompatibilities with some of the less ‘everyday’ software products we use routinely in the tech support team simply haven’t materialised. Every tool they use works really well, with no hiccups.
True All-Day Battery Life
Battery life has long been the Achilles heel of many powerful Windows laptops. The switch to ARM finally changes that.
With the Snapdragon platform, the Surface Laptop 7 delivers real-world usage times of 18 to 20+ hours on a single charge. No throttling, no compromises, and no frantic searches for power sockets halfway through the workday.
For mobile professionals, that’s a huge productivity boost. Gareth has proved his new Surface Laptop 7 will last a full day for him too (which can start before 7am and last til well gone 10pm and involves multi-tasking on a level you will have never witnessed before!). It also means he won’t need to remember to take his charger out with him, which is a relief!
Built-in AI: Capable but Early Days
Each Snapdragon X processor includes a powerful Neural Processing Unit (NPU), technically capable of accelerating AI workloads locally. While the real-world impact today is modest, the hardware lays the groundwork for more advanced, locally-processed AI features expected in future Windows updates.
It’s not a headline feature yet — but it’s a signpost of where things are going.
Instant-On & Always Connected
ARM-based devices support smartphone-like instant wake and superior sleep modes, meaning your laptop is ready the moment you open it. Combine that with Wi-Fi 7 and optional 5G connectivity, and you’ve got a machine that’s truly built for the modern hybrid workplace.
Gareth’s noticed he can wake his Surface Laptop from sleep and be instantly starting up a Teams call or meeting. There’s never a problem with headsets and mics not working after waking from sleep, so no rebooting required.
No more waiting. No more spinning wheels. Just instant productivity.
Silent, Cool, and Beautifully Engineered
Thanks to the ARM chip’s efficiency, the Surface Laptop 7 runs cool and completely silent — with no fans required. That also allows for a thinner chassis and more space inside for the generous battery. Furthermore, the new 15″ model is 10mm narrower and 4-6mm shorter than previous 15″ Surface Laptops, due to a much narrower screen margin or ‘bezel’ (but of course nit-pickers might argue it isn’t a proper bezel anymore now screens are totally flat!).

You get:
- A smaller, slimmer, lighter machine
- Zero fan noise
- Fewer moving parts, which improves durability
Silent, Cool and Beautifully Engineered – It’s a better experience, plain and simple.
Superior Security Architecture
The Snapdragon platform brings enhanced chip-to-cloud security that aligns well with modern device management strategies. Combined with Microsoft Pluton support and Windows Secured-core PC features, the Surface Laptop 7 is well-positioned to meet the security demands of regulated industries and hybrid work environments. The optional integrated smart card reader 35 enables password-less two-factor authentication needed in many industry scenarios.
It’s not just a performance upgrade — it’s a security evolution.
Final Thoughts: Is It Right for Your Business?
If your organisation values mobility, battery life, and forward-looking tech, the Surface Laptop 7 is a strong contender for your next fleet refresh. It’s not just another Windows laptop — it’s a glimpse at the future of enterprise computing.
If you’re already using earlier Surface devices in your business you’ll already be familiar with the fabulously thought out design and build quality, and their very long working lifespans. The brilliant return on investment you get with Microsoft Surface is no secret (and we really do like to wax lyrical about them being worth every penny), but this latest release shows Microsoft knows how to still command our attention and keep us excited. The Surface range just gets better and better.
Windows 10 reaching ‘End of Support’ soon
With Windows 10 reaching ‘End of Support’ later this year, now is the right time to be making plans to upgrade to Windows 11. There’s not a great deal of sense upgrading older devices, which are out of warranty and may soon run into reliability issues. If you have devices older than 2 or 3 years, then financially, it may make more sense to replace your old Windows 10 devices with new devices that come Windows 11 Pro pre-installed. We can help you decide on the best course of action for your business.
What a great time to consider how Surface Laptops could help take your business to the next level!
